Mixed Media Pinterest Board
Welcome to Mixed Media Exploration!
Here in class we will be exploring a variety of ways to COMBINE art media together to create art pieces that are unique, visually interested and expressive!
My first suggestion is to join Pinterest, as you will see so many mixed media examples to help you develop your own ideas.
You should create your own Mixed Media board and begin collecting some mixed media artworks that are interesting/inspiring to you. Search for "mixed media" in the pinterest search bar and look at the other boards others have created titled Mixed Media. Each pin is essentially a visual bookmark, that should lead you to a website or blog.

Project #1 The Reinvented Book
This is a fantastic starter project for this enrichment. We will be working in layers and using words from a page to guide our layered collaged design/illustration.
This project is an excellent way to begin working in layers using Gel or Gloss Acrylic Medium and blending collage and other drawing/painting media together.
Look at the album below for some inspiration:

Directions
1. GLUE PAGES. On a piece of illustration board, tear out 2-4 pages from an old book and use Gloss or Matte medium and a brush to paste the pages down. It's important to make sure both sides of the book paper are generously covered with gloss medium and you've smoothed out the air bubbles.
2. FIND and DISTILL. Take a pen and begin circling words or phrases that pop out at your on the pages. Remember you can read from ANY direction...this is your interpretation. Essentially, you are putting together a found poem from the words on the pages. Use a piece of scrap paper to begin writing down and piecing together the found poem. The meaning or the mood of this poem should influence your mixed media design that you will add to this paper in later layers. By the end of class, you should have decided on the found poem you will use. :)
3. SKETCH out 3 IDEAS.. On a piece of scrap paper, begin thinking about your initial design and use the found poem from your previous step to guide this....are you thinking about doing something more REPRESENTATIONAL or more ABSTRACT or a COMBO of both? Loosely sketch out what you are thinking about. This is not your final idea, but a place to begin.
